The most straightforward answer on this list: a rooftop cocktail bar on East 2nd with a 4.9 rating across 5,116 reviews, which is about as settled as a rating gets in downtown Austin. It opens in the evening seven days a week, closing at 11pm Sunday through Wednesday and midnight Thursday through Saturday. Listed hours vary slightly between the bar's own site and its Instagram, so an early arrival is safer than a 5pm one. 2. Upstairs at Caroline
A 4.9 rating from 6,277 reviews, the largest sample of any high-rated spot here, and the open-air upstairs level runs long hours: noon to midnight Monday through Thursday, 11am to midnight Friday through Sunday. There are no reservations, walk-ins only, which is why the stairs back up early on weekend evenings. 3. Zanzibar

Unlike most of this list, it runs a full day: breakfast daily 7 to 11am, lunch Monday through Friday and brunch on weekends until 2:30pm, bar snacks in the 2:30 to 5pm gap, then dinner from 5pm, to 10pm Sunday through Thursday and 11pm Friday and Saturday. 5. Geraldine's
The bar and restaurant at Hotel Van Zandt on Davis Street, holding 4.5 across 1,483 reviews. Chef Sergio Ledesma's menu is modern Mexican drawing on regional Mexican cooking and Texas seasonal produce, with Southern influences. It opens at 7am, so it works for coffee-hour sitting as well as late drinks; Monday hours run 7 to 11am and again 5 to 11pm. The early-evening deal is the reason to arrive at five: a rotating three-course menu and $6 martini flights daily from 5:00 to 6:30pm. Menu offerings rotate regularly, so check before planning around a specific dish.
6. La Piscina

Service runs daily 11am to 10pm, with brunch Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm; the patio stays open the same daily hours on a limited menu, walk-in only. 7. El Cockfight
An Oaxacan-inspired agave bar with a rooftop patio on East 5th, in the middle of the downtown bar run. The 4.4 rating comes from 186 reviews, so this is promising rather than proven, and the crowd skews toward a late night out. It is 21 and up, open Monday through Friday from 3pm and weekends from 2pm, with a 2am close every night. Happy hour runs daily until 6pm, which makes the early slot the calm one. Tacos and mezcal-leaning cocktails are the format.
8. LUNA Rooftop
The most nightlife-driven entry and the one with the thinnest record: 4.0 from 149 reviews, a small sample and the lowest rating here, so treat it as a night-out choice rather than a sure thing. The West 5th Street rooftop runs 6pm to midnight with sunset happy hour deals from 6 to 9pm, and the programming is DJ-led, including Vibra Latin Fridays and Day N' Night Saturdays, plus pre-parties tied to touring shows. Bottle service is available. Come early for the happy hour window if the club format is not what you want.
