Austin's steak market is crowded with out-of-town operators, which makes the independent rooms worth sorting out first. The three below are the ones with local addresses and ratings backed by enough reviews to mean something, spread across downtown, the blocks near the UT campus, and the hills west of the city. Two of them run dinner service starting at 5 PM, so plan the drive accordingly.
1. Dean's Italian Steakhouse
The strongest score in the group: 4.9 across 2,875 reviews, which is an unusually settled number at that rating. It sits at 110 E 2nd St, in the thick of downtown, and works an Italian angle on the steakhouse format rather than the standard chophouse script. The restaurant lists a prix fixe menu at $85 per person, served nightly from 5 PM, with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are handled online and the later slots run past 11 PM, so a post-show table is realistic. Given the downtown location, expect to sort out parking before you sit down.
2. Acre 41
A contemporary steakhouse at 1901 San Antonio St, just west of the UT campus, holding 4.8 from 2,073 reviews. Dinner runs 5 PM to 10 PM, but Yelp lists the doors opening at 7 AM Monday and Tuesday, so it operates well beyond the dinner hour. Parking is spelled out on the menu itself: $15 valet or $10 self park, both for three hours, which is a rare piece of clarity in that part of town. The skillet cornbread is listed among the starters. Reservation times run from early afternoon through 11:30 PM.
3. Steiner Ranch Steakhouse
The volume leader here, with 5,751 reviews behind a 4.6 rating, making it the most thoroughly tested room on this list even though the score sits below the other two. It is at 5424 Steiner Ranch Blvd, well northwest of downtown, so this is a drive rather than a walk from a hotel. That distance is the point for a lot of the people who go: the trip out to Steiner Ranch is part of the evening. Book ahead, particularly for weekends, since a restaurant drawing that many reviews is not one you show up to on spec.
