The Yancey Road taproom serves a full menu of appetizers, handhelds, burgers, salads, bowls and pizza, so it works for a table of people who are not all there for beer. Weekly specials include $1 wings on Wednesday in orders of five, and an $8 feature burger of the month with a side on Thursday, when growlers and crowlers are $3 off. Open Monday through Saturday 11am to 10pm and Sunday 11am to 8pm.
2. Wooden Robot Brewery
An urban farmhouse brewery on South Tryon with 987 reviews behind a 4.7, enough volume to call the rating settled. The original taproom doubles as a coffee bar and opens at 8am most weekdays, which makes it one of the few brewery addresses in South End that works before noon. Breakfast runs Friday 8 to 11am and Saturday and Sunday 9 to 11am; lunch and dinner run Tuesday through Sunday, so Monday is a coffee-and-beer day only. Takeout is available online.
3. Divine Barrel Brewing
A 4.8 from 532 reviews puts this NoDa brewery among the highest-rated in the city, with enough reviews to take seriously. Barrel work and dark beer are the focus, including breakfast porters such as Defensive Pancake and French Toast. The taproom builds its week around regulars: $10 flights and Mindless Minutia Trivia at 7pm on Monday, a run club at 6:30pm Thursday, and $5 wine pours on Sunday. Doors open at 4pm Monday through Wednesday and at noon Thursday through Sunday, closing at 10pm except Sunday, when it is 8pm.
4. Legion Brewing South Park
