Best Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants in Charlotte
Charlotte, North Carolina — updated August 21, 2026
Charlotte's plant-based kitchens are scattered from South Boulevard to Ballantyne, and several keep unusual hours: pickup-only counters, weekend-only stalls and midweek closures. Here are the ones with the review records to back them up.
Listings verified
Charlotte's vegetarian and vegan dining is spread wide rather than clustered: a fully vegan Chinese kitchen in the far south of the county, a pure-vegetarian Indian restaurant off Camfield Street, a burger counter on South Boulevard. Several of these places are takeout-focused, and more than one is closed two days a week, so the planning matters as much as the ordering. The list below is ordered by how convincingly each answers the question, weighing rating against how many reviews stand behind it.
1. Ma Ma Wok
An entirely vegan Chinese menu holding a 4.6 across more than 800 reviews, which is the strongest rating-to-volume combination on this list. The kitchen at 11914 Elm Ln works in mushrooms and seitan: fried oyster mushrooms, salt and pepper king oyster, seitan "chicken" and sesame chicken all turn up repeatedly in reviews, alongside BBQ pork buns and sesame balls from the snack side of the menu. It is closed Mondays. Weekday service runs in two blocks with an afternoon break between lunch and dinner, while Saturday and Sunday run straight through from 11:30 am to 9 pm. Hours are listed for takeout, so call ahead if you plan to eat in.
2. Romeo’s Vegan Burgers
The most tested plant-based burger operation in the city, with a 4.5 across nearly 1,600 reviews at 5518 South Blvd. Founded in Charlotte by Daniel Heath and Tigo Faulkner, it has since added Greensboro and Asheville locations, but this is the original market. The BBQ bacon burger is the item the kitchen pushes hardest and the one regulars name; chili cheese fries are the standard side, and most burgers can be taken as a combo. A rating that steady over that many reviews means the consistency is proven rather than provisional, which is not a given in the vegan fast-food category.
3. Chaat 'N' Dosa - Indian Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant
A pure-vegetarian Indian kitchen at 8624 Camfield St, Suite C, rated 4.4 across more than 1,500 reviews, so the score is settled. The name tells you the two halves of the menu: street-food chaat and dosas, with vegan options marked. The weekend breakfast service, 8:30 to 11:00 am Saturday and Sunday, is the detail most people miss. Listings disagree on whether weekdays run straight through or break in the afternoon, so check the day you plan to go. Takeout and delivery are both offered. More at chaatndosanc.com.
4. Taste of Soul: Plant based & Vegan Cuisine (Inside Citykitch) GhostKitchen
The highest-rated entry here at 4.8, though from 398 reviews rather than four figures, so treat it as strongly promising rather than fully proven. It operates out of City Kitch at 2200 Thrift Rd, a shared commercial kitchen the owners themselves compare to a mall food court, and it is pickup only: order ahead through Toast and collect. The menu is 100 percent no meat, no dairy, built on plant-based takes on soul food, and reviewers note how broad it runs. Saturday service is listed from noon to 8 pm. There is no dining room, so plan to eat elsewhere.
5. Bean Vegan Cuisine
A full-service all-vegan menu at 3001 E Independence Blvd covering burgers, breakfast, BBQ and buffalo. The 4.3 rating is the lowest here, but it comes from more than 1,500 reviews, which makes it a reliable read on a kitchen with a wide menu rather than the effect of a few bad nights. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday, which catches people out. Sunday is a short day, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and breakfast items start at 11:00 am. Listings vary slightly on the Monday opening time, between 11:30 am and noon, so aim for the later end.
6. Vegan To-Go
A weekend-only stall inside the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market at 1801 Yorkmont Rd, Building B, space 37. It holds a 4.4, but from 188 reviews, the thinnest evidence base on this list, so consider it less established than the restaurants above. The draw is vegan pizza: whole pies, pepperoni versions and breadsticks, plus pastas and desserts. Hours are tight, roughly 8 am to 2 pm Saturday and 9 am to 2 pm Sunday, so this is a morning or early lunch stop combined with market shopping rather than a dinner plan.
What we left off
Charlotte Regional Farmers Market rates 4.6 across more than 2,800 reviews and is open Wednesday through Sunday, 8 am to 5 pm, with easy parking. It is a produce and prepared-food market rather than a vegetarian kitchen, so it does not get its own entry here, though Vegan To-Go operates inside it and is worth the trip on a Saturday morning. Love In Action Cafe on Tuckaseegee Road carries a 4.8 from 198 reviews, but Yelp reports the location closed and Google has listed it as temporarily closed, with staff saying they are working on a new space. We will revisit it if a new address is confirmed.
