Groundwater is one of the world's most important yet least visible freshwater resources, sustaining agriculture, communities, ecosystems, and economies. As climate change alters the frequency and intensity of droughts, floods, and other hydrological extremes, effective governance of these resources is increasingly critical for global water and food security. Lucy Bassett, Professor of Practice in Public Policy and Co-Director of the Humanitarian Collaborative, will moderate this Batten Hour conversation with Leah Beaulac, Senior Manager of Climate Resilient Water Systems at Environmental Defense Fund. Leah will share lessons from her work across Asia and the American High Plains, highlighting how data, policy, stakeholder engagement, and local leadership can strengthen resilience and support sustainable groundwater management.
