Free VMFA Lecture: “It Comes to Life!” Hollywood’s Mummies By Trent Nicholas Ancient Egypt, and specifically mummies, have offered highly creative inspiration for feature films. This presentation will provide a film history background on the art, exploring characteristics of this sub-genre and attitudes towards “exotic” views of Ancient Egyptian culture. Excerpts from 1932’s The Mummy starring Boris Karloff will be shown with the lecture. This is a free public event. This program has been organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is supported, in part, by the Paul Mellon Endowment and the Jean Stafford Camp Memorial Fund.
