Lighting of the Lawn was created in the wake of September 11, 2001, as a way to unite the University and Charlottesville communities in reflection and hope. More than two decades later, that purpose remains at the heart of the tradition. This year, with the theme “LOTL in Harmony”, Lighting of the Lawn will celebrate the many voices, perspectives, and experiences that make up the UVA community and demonstrate how they can come together to create something meaningful. The event serves as both an end-of-year celebration and an opportunity for students to pause, connect, and celebrate their shared experience at the University.
