Commemorate Virginians participation in the Battle of Trenton in 1776 with a living history event on December 5-6, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to include activities, demonstrations, presentations and a chance to meet George Washington. The Battle of Trenton was fought in December of 1776 after George Washington’s Continental Army crossed the ice-filled Delaware River in a surprise attack against the Hessian garrison at Trenton. It was a tactical victory for the Continental Army and a much needed morale boost after the previous defeats in New York. The victory revitalized the Americans and inspired recruitment and provided the momentum for the subsequent victories to include the Battle of Princeton in January of 1776. Guests will have the chance to learn from living historians portraying soldiers who fought the Battle of Trenton where Virginians from Dinwiddie County and elsewhere fought for the patriot cause. The living historians will present different aspects of a soldier’s life including camp life, drill, weapons, and demonstrations. Impressions will include the Virginia militia of 1776 and the 6th Virginia Continental Regiment who will share the role of Virginia in the bat
