Join us for a staged reading of Women+ on the Edge of Democracy. Directed by Emily J. Mattison, Head of Undergraduate Theatrical Performance Following the reading, we will host a talkback. We are also excited to be joined by @vcuvotes_students and the League of Women Voters Richmond Presented by the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in partnership with the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, Women+ on the Edge of Democracy sets out to form a collective portrait of a nation in doubt and transformation, seen through the eyes of women+ playwrights from around the world who have long chronicled America’s contradictions and dreams. Through comedy and tragedy, rage and tenderness, hope and fear, these writers will map a picture of America today, revealing how democracy feels to those who have spent their lives giving voice to the unseen and unheard. Original artwork by Paula Scher and Pentagram. Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 PM in the Grace Street Theater
