Fall festival season around Richmond
Two events anchor the fall in Richmond. The State Fair of Virginia runs for about ten days from late September at Meadow Event Park in Caroline County, north of the city. The Richmond Folk Festival takes over the riverfront downtown for a weekend in October, with music on several stages, and it is free.
Around them, the breweries run Oktoberfests in the first half of October, the wineries east and west of the city hold harvest weekends, and the farms in Hanover and Chesterfield turn their weekends into fall festivals with mazes, hayrides and pumpkins.
What to expect
Brewery and winery festivals are usually free to walk in and charge for what you drink. The fair and the farm festivals charge admission and often sell tickets or parking online for the busy weekends.
