November 21Fall festival season around Austin
Fall in Austin is built around two big weekends of music and one of books. Austin City Limits Music Festival fills Zilker Park over two weekends in early October, and the Texas Book Festival takes over downtown for a weekend in mid November, free and open to everyone.
Around them, the breweries run Oktoberfests through late September and October, and the farms north and east of the city open fall festivals with pumpkins, mazes and hayrides from late September into early November.
What to expect
Brewery festivals are usually free to walk in and charge for what you drink. The big music festival sells out its passes well ahead; farm festivals charge admission at the gate or online. It is still hot in early October: afternoon events are outdoors, so plan for sun.
Places with fall festivals on their calendars right now include The Long Center for the Performing Arts, The Trail Conservancy and Waterloo Greenway and others.
