When pumpkin season is near Austin
The farms around Austin open their pumpkin patches and fall festivals in the second half of September and run them into early November. They are a drive out of the city, to the north around Georgetown and to the east, so they make a half-day trip.
Weekend afternoons are the busy time and can still be hot in early October. Weekday visits are quieter; check the farm's own page for its days before you go.
How the farms work
Most farms charge admission for the patch and play area, with pumpkins sold by size or weight on top. Mazes, hayrides and animal areas are usually part of the ticket. Rain can close fields for a day; farms post that on their own pages.
