Fall is the busiest festival season in central Virginia. The wineries and cideries throw harvest parties as the grapes come in through September and October; the breweries run Oktoberfests, mostly in the first half of October; and the farms and orchards turn their weekends into fall festivals with mazes, hayrides and music. The towns add craft fairs and heritage days on top.
